Invaluable if you take your art seriously

I have been studying martial arts for over 30years and this book has shared some valuable information on breaking down our traditional techniques and developing real world training scenarios that have real value. Some of the information is confirmed by my own experience and the writers obviously have shared some of the same experiences and this gives confidence that the information provided has been tested under strict examination.
Discussion's on Evidence based martial arts increase the awareness of your training and force you to evaluate the technique for its true worth. Data provided is clear and well laid out and the graphical representations help to further reinforce the points that are being discussed.
If you train in the Martial Arts and want to develop your training and if you teach then you owe it to yourself and your students to read the information contained within this book.

You might think you know... but you have no idea!

I have Practiced Martial arts for around thirty years. I have been teaching for about 15 years. This book drastically changed my perspective. I now teach and train in a whole different manner. This book gives great statistics which makes several of the " best technique" arguments moot. I highly recommend this book to any serious budo practitioner, and would strongly advise any contemporary martial artist to read it... it may just change how you view your art.

Valuable and complete content, but there is place to improvement

I have been practicing Shito-ryu Karate since I was a child 7 years old, and as a black belt 2nd degree my knowledge on techniques, kata and kumite is extense. Nevertheless, I have been strugling for some years now trying to understand the applicability and suitability of these knowledge in real modern street fighting. With this book I saw the opportinity of finding answers and I did not need a second thought for purchasing it.
It contains lots of data on fighting statistics, history and evolution of martial arts, physiological and psicological aspects in fighting scenarios, explores thoroughly the medical outcomes resulting from the typical streetfighting techniques and finishes with a evidence-based reinterpretation of some kata bunkai. At the very end a curriculum of the knowledge needed for each belt rank based on traditional karata and street injury data is provided.
All the information and data in this book is of extreme value and usefulness and it has helped me to answer some of my doubts, and I would encouragely recomend this book for any karate practitioner. Nevertheless, I have missed a more extensive description (with photographs perhaps) of specific street-fight-oriented karate applications. In other words, explain more deeply and show with pictures or graphs what has been nicely summarized in the curricula examples.
